Kinship families rarely have any spare cash. As a group, we are always fundraising – car boot sales, table-top sales, Pie & Peas suppers, afternoon teas, tombola, raffles, domino cards, guess the name of the teddy and so on. For our major events we look for contributions from local charities, who have supported us wonderfully these last 7 years.
Before the pandemic we had started on a really major project for our small charity to buy a Respite Holiday Caravan located not too far away because not all our children travel well, and on the coast.
With the outbreak of the situation in Ukraine, we felt we should perhaps pause our efforts. However, The National Lottery Community Fund has got in touch and they are very kindly disposed toward helping us buy a new caravan However costs mounted when we added new decking to the price of a new ABI Windermere caravan. In the end we have settled for a nearly new but immaculate 8 berth ABI Windermere which came complete with generous L-shaped decking included in the price.
On Thursday 16th February we heard that the National Lottery were indeed going to fund our project! Just in time for our Friday’s group meeting! Our members were cock-a-hoop at the news with the prospect of a proper holiday at last. Good, happy news in our troubled times!
We will still be fundraising for a ‘support package’ which may include funding for travelling to the caravan park, a food hamper on arrival, entertainment vouchers.
